Tracking residential vacancy rates across NSW.

Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW)

The Work

As part of their commitment to providing accurate and timely information about the state of residential real estate in NSW, the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW) tracks and measures the proportion of residential properties vacant and available for rent each month.

Our Approach

Using an online survey distributed to more than 4,000 members of REINSW, the survey collates information on rental vacancies across the state of New South Wales. The survey captures the vacancy data of over 300 agents each month, and covers an average of between100,000 and 150,000 properties available to for rent in NSW. By carefully managing the sample and weighting it to the NSW rental property market, Survey Matters ensures a consistent and comparable data source of vacancy rates across the state.

Outcome

The REINSW Vacancy Rate Data survey is now in its 20th year, and is a significant source of information for researchers, economists, property managers and agents and housing authorities. Survey Matters has managed the collection of this data on a monthly basis for the past twelve years, tracking and comparing vacancy rates across 20 defined regions.

“I’ve been working with the team at Survey Matters for the past five years. They always deliver the research on time and ensure that the data is correct and statistically valid, even if that means spending hours chasing up non-respondents. What’s more, they are a pleasure to deal with. I’m happy to recommend them to you for your next research project."
