The independent brewing sector comprises organisations located across every state and territory in Australia. Approximately 65% of independent brewing businesses are in regional and rural areas, with the sector’s activities supporting businesses, tourism and employment in these communities.

Since 2015, Survey Matters has been collecting business data from independent brewers for the Independent Brewers Association (IBA), who use the information to inform advocacy efforts and to contribute to national industry economic evaluation reports. These reports investigate the impact of the industry to Australia’s economy and identifies constraints to industry growth and the benefits of both Government support and Excise reform.

The data collected is wide and varied, and comprises production volumes, revenues, employment levels, operating and capital expenditures, as well as opinions on constraints to growth and areas for investment.

The wealth of information collected allows IBA to track trends and benchmark the growth of the industry. It also delivers vital evidence to support the IBA’s advocacy to government in the areas of industry investment and regulatory reform.
